Waivers
Waivers are a little thing put in place to prevent stockpiling players in the minors and avoiding cap hits.Basically, any player that has been in the NHL for 3 or more seasons or played 180 or more games is subject to waivers if they are being sent to or called from the minors. When a player is placed on waivers, every team in the NHL has a chance to place a claim on them. The team that put in a bid that is lowest in the standings gets the player. If no bids are placed, that player can be called up and sent down freely for about a month, give or take a few days.Claiming a player costs you $50,000, and you take on their full salary, so don't just go claiming every player that's put on waivers.Waivers are a handy way to get rid of bad salary, too (I'm looking at you, Tampa Bay and Colorado [Richards and Theodore, of course]), as once the player is claimed, you're off the hook for the salary. Now, a good trick for waiving players is waiving more than one at once. Since each team can only make one claim every 24 hours (game time), there is less a chance of all of them being claimed than if you waived them one at a time. This trick is especially useful during training camp, when you'll be sending lots of players back down to the farm.Oh, and to place a player on waivers, create a new post with the player's name as the title. One post per player waived. No more, no less. "(Team name) waives" will be deleted. |
